One-stop solution for temperature and humidity measurement in automotive paint lines

Cambridge, UK - Success in automotive paint jobs requires accurate control of temperature as well as humidity. Surfaces must be dehumidified prior to clear coat application and full cure. Datapaq has assembled an integrated measurement system for both values for an automobile manufacturer. The application's brains, a MultiPaq21 data logger connects up to eight type K thermocouples and a humidity sensor. The system simply passes through the process with the car body. Operators are no longer required to step into the spray booths and the dehumidifier zone and take measurements with handheld devices. Thus, the risk of contamination has been drastically decreased. Simultaneously, measurement quality has been improved. Now, more than 90 % of car bodies meet maximum requirements without rework. In addition to flawless quality, exact process data contribute to a high throughput and small energy costs since the oven temperature can be lowered to the minimum acceptable value. Moreover, the introduction of the Datapaq solution initiated an accurate adjustment of process parameters to reflect seasonal climatic variations. Resulting in further time savings, measurements do not have to be entered into analysis programs manually. A radio telemetry system allows for even more immediate progress feedback, enabling the logger to transmit data to a connected computer for live monitoring.
